Former Use

Land Use

Site located in central downtown Ronceverte adjacent to the CSX rail line. Adjacent to the west is Monroe Avenue a residential area of town (mixed use zone), to the south is the Ronceverte Island Park where B. A. Mullican accesses their flooring plant, and to the east is a former C&O Maintenance Shop now being used as a garage space.

Infrastructure

Site runs adjacent to the CSX rail line as the town is a rail hub for CSX for "push cars" for the coal trains into Virginia. We are located seven miles from I-64, with US 219 and US 63 intersecting in the community. The airport is 10 miles north.

Assessment Level

Phase 2

Phase I and II were completed in 2011. We are seeking funds for the Phase III cleanup this next grant cycle. A following up Phase I has been completed by the city who wanted to ensure the site had not changed from the first Phase I as it transferred the building to the RDC/MSR.

Contaminants

Contaminants are PHAs, asbestos tiles, lead paint and minor petroleum from former use within the building, and combination of minor elements resulting in the years of use for industrial purposes. Nothing that would not allow a clean up and clear assessment on the building once completed. Phase II available upon request.
